Autumn Kelland, MA

Autumn Kelland, MA

Autumn completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University after an extended break from employment to spend time with her children. After finishing her undergraduate studies in Fine Art at Southern Virginia University, Autumn completed an apprenticeship with a ceramics sculptor and worked as an aid and teaching assistant in the Rockbridge County school district. She then took a break from teaching children to instruct adult ballroom dancing, before working in engineering at Nextel/Sprint in southern California. Seeking a job to utilize her creative skills and passion for art, she was able to teach art to elementary age children at the Pacific School of Music and Arts. Through her varied work experiences and time living in California, Kansas, Maryland, and Virginia, she discovered her enthusiasm for incorporating art, music, and dance into building connections with people, as well as her devotion to working with children and adolescents. The ability to facilitate healing through arts and psychotherapy influences her work at Maple Hall.

Autumn operates from a person-centered and holistic perspective, considering biological, social, and cultural factors to develop wholeness within the self and family relationships. She strives to promote growth in students through integration of Expressive Arts, Solution-Focused, Narrative, and Experiential therapies into counseling, building confidence and self-esteem. Autumn enjoys working with adolescents and horses, and is excited to continue to provide Equine-Assisted therapy with students and families at Maple Hall.

When she is not spending time watching movies, playing games, or exploring Virginia with her husband and four children, you will find Autumn reading, walking her dogs, or baking.  Autumn likes to support her children’s interests and the local community by serving on the board of directors for the RCHS Music Boosters organization in Lexington, and attending band concerts and competitions. She also enjoys sewing, drawing, and painting, when she is not busy entertaining friends and embarrassing her children by dancing and performing karaoke.
