Kate Squires, MS, LPC

Kate works as a Primary Therapist at Maple Hall Academy.  She received her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Radford University.  Prior to joining Maple Hall Academy, Kate worked as a Therapist at a residential treatment center for adolescent males in Staunton, Virginia.  Kate worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch before deciding to return to school to earn her graduate degree.  Working at Merrill Lynch, Kate discovered what she most valued in a career: the importance of connecting with people, establishing relationships with individuals, and ultimately helping them improve their lives.  These goals continue to guide her work at Maple Hall Academy.

Kate utilizes a holistic approach to working with students.  She incorporates the treatment modalities of Humanistic Counseling, Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Family Systems Therapy, and Solution-Focused Counseling to meet the unique needs of each student.  She enjoys helping students become effective in their daily lives through acceptance, self-compassion, self-regulation, and other interventions aimed at increasing overall resilience.  Kate loves working with this age population.  She spent many summers in the mountains of North Carolina as a camp counselor at her childhood camp, Camp Merrie-Woode.

A former collegiate soccer player and cross-country runner, Kate spends time running and hiking when away from Maple Hall Academy.  She is a member of the board of directors of Yellow Brick Road, an early learning center in Lexington. Kate also enjoys cooking and traveling with her husband, Andrew.  Between the two of them, they have had adventures on all seven continents.
